Download Good Books for Kids when You Have to Wait

... the rubber meets the road: Wheel and tire shop keeps aircraft rollingI took my eleven-year-old daughter into town for a girl’s time together. We planned to get her hair done, eat dinner, and see a movie. After her hair was styled, we returned to the car to find a flat tire. I couldn’t reach my husband because he was going to a neighbor’s house where there is no range on his cell phone. I tried everyone I could think of and finally had to just call the tire shop to come and tow us to get the tire fixed.

They towed us, but couldn’t get us right in and we ended up having to wait…and wait…and wait. Thank goodness I had my Kindle!

Luckily, the place had wi fi and I was able to download a couple of good books for kids. We chose one, which we read together as we waited…and waited…and waited. It was unbelievable how long it took just get a tire fixed, but we ended up having so much fun reading together. We laughed, talked about interesting things we read, and just loved the book we had chosen.

Even though our outing didn’t go as we had planned (we ended up missing the movie), we had a wonderful time together. One of those times we will remember forever.

A Box of Magic

I was cleaning out the attic this past week because my mother has been bugging me about it for what seems like forever. It’s one of those tasks that I really don’t like the idea of doing, but I know that I have to and I know that I’ll invariably stumble upon something that will entertain me for hours on end potentially. I find something great this time; a box of my mom’s old science fiction short stories. For a while in college, she apparently dabbled in writing and I had no idea. I took a peek through one of them and I couldn’t put it down; not only was she very good at it, but I never realized how much I enjoyed science fiction. I’m now trying to find some more stories online and in bookstores so that I can continue to foster my enjoyment and my thirst for these stories.

The Best Books out There Do Not Have Big Marketing Budgets

Often times, we are talking about covering the best books out on the market. Moreover, when we do that, we usually pick out titles (not deliberately, mind you) that have not really been given its fair share of the lime light in the book buying community. It is not that we are purposefully picking out the obscure titles and authors; it is just that, usually, the best books out there do not enjoy, firstly, the PR and press and marketing budget that most of this other well branded and marketed authors enjoy. Often times, we’re dealing with authors that are new, and that are worth pointing out, because of the fact that they do bring something that’s fresh and even a bit novel, to the table. Moreover, that is what one of our aims is, at the blog; it is an aim to elevate discourse amongst Main Street. We are sick of seeing the reality TV stars get all of the big book sales.
